Religious Education Volunteer
Volunteers must pass a background check and complete Safe Environment training before their first volunteer assignment.
General Requirements for all Religious Education Volunteer Positions:
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation Meeting (before classes begin)
- Pass a background check (before classes begin)
- Complete Safe Environment training (before classes begin)
- Be available on scheduled class nights
- Communicate schedule availability to R.E. Coordinator
- Dress appropriately
- Be a practicing Catholic
- Be willing to share your faith in a positive way
- Be at least 15 years old
Volunteer Positions for Youth Classes
Classes are currently held on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:00pm
Catechist (Must be at least 18 years old)
Time Commitment:
2 hours on-site each week (with breaks in Fall, Winter, and Spring)
+ 30 minutes of preparation each week (on-site or at home)
Weekly Duties:
- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins
- Lead class in pre-planned lessons provided by the R.E. Coordinator
- Maintain discipline and order while teaching the class
Classroom helper (Must be at least 15 years old)
Time Commitment:
2 hours on-site each week (with breaks in Fall, Winter, and Spring)
Weekly Duties:
- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins
- Assist catechist in classroom duties
- Assist catechist in maintaining discipline during the class session
- Assist children in understanding and completing the lessons
Substitute Catechist (Must be at least 18 years old)
Time Commitment:
2 hours on-site + 30 minutes of preparation (on-site or at home)
Weekly Duties:
- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins
- Lead class in pre-planned lessons provided by the R.E. Coordinator
- Maintain discipline and order while teaching the class
Volunteer Positions for Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (and Teens)
Classes are currently held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm
Session Aide (Must be at least 15 years old)
Time Commitment:
2 hours on-site each week (with seasonal breaks)
Weekly Duties:
- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins
- Assist catechist in classroom duties
- Assist participants in understanding the topics discussed
Substitute Session Leader (Must be at least 18 years old)
Time Commitment:
2 hours on-site + 30 minutes of preparation (on-site or at home)
Weekly Duties:
- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins
- Lead class in pre-planned lessons provided by the Pastor
- Maintain discipline and order while teaching the class
