Hello St. Mary's,

You may have noticed some work being done to the convent building (the one located between the chapel and the JB Wright house). The work we had done on that building was done to stop the decay of that building. It needed to be done regardless of what the feasibility study showed.

It was in rough shape interiorly and had been overrun by stray cats and wild pigeons and also had not been maintained properly for a while. The challenge was, we had many items from our history stored in there. So, we had that building cleaned out, stripped and gutted so that it can be used in the future. We went in and saved photos, records, old pews, and even an old tabernacle from a high altar, and many other items preserving our parish history. We also had some asbestos remediation done to that building. The building was also sealed up for preservation and usability for whatever future work is done towards a parish hall. All of the work done on this project was something I had been working on as part of maintaining our existing facilities since arriving here in July of 2025 and now that it is done, we can now look to the future.

The timing for this project also happened to coincide with the feasibility study. I have had a few people ask me what the point of the feasibility study was. They shared that seeing construction while asking for input seemed useless. That was not my goal and again, the cleaning, repair, and preservation of that building was something already in the works. It is not related to the feasibility study, except tangentially, in the sense that now we have a blank slate to work with for that building and any future designs of the hall. Future designs and plans for a parish hall is where your feedback is being considered and our options explored.

To that end, I want to thank everyone who participated in the feasibility study; the results were positive and encouraging for me as I continue to pursue efforts to expand our parish facilities in order to meet current and future needs of St. Mary's. Based on the results of the study, I am exploring next steps in consultation with the diocese to ensure that what we do is cost effective, meets the needs of our community, and to ensure quality controls are met. I have nothing definitive to share with you at this time, but I have also received many additional questions about what we are hoping to do. I am compiling those questions and answers and will share them with you once they are done.

Quizás hayan notado que se están realizando algunas obras en el edificio del convento (el que se encuentra entre la capilla y la casa de JB Wright). Las obras que llevamos a cabo en ese edificio tenían como objetivo detener su deterioro. Era necesario realizarlas independientemente de lo que indicara el estudio de viabilidad. El interior se encontraba en muy mal estado, habia sido invadido por gatos callejeros y palomas silvestres, y ademas hacía tiempo que no se le daba el mantenimiento adecuado. El reto era que teníamos muchos objetos de nuestra historia almacenados alli. Por eso, hicimos que se limpiara, desmontara y vaciara por completo ese edificio para que pueda utilizarse en el futuro. Entramos y rescatamos fotos, registros, bancos antiguos e incluso un antiguo tabernáculo de un altar mayor, además de muchos otros objetos que preservan la historia de nuestra parroquia. También se llevó a cabo la remoción del asbesto en ese edificio. Además, el edificio fue sellado para su conservación y para que pueda utilizarse en cualquier trabajo futuro que se realice con miras a convertirlo en un salón parroquial. Todo el trabajo realizado en este proyecto formaba parte de las tareas de mantenimiento de nuestras instalaciones existentes desde que llegué aquí en julio de 2025 y, ahora que esta terminado, podemos mirar hacia el futuro.

El momento en que se llevó a cabo este proyecto coincidió con el estudio de viabilidad. Algunas personas me han preguntado cual era el propósito del estudio de viabilidad. Me comentaron que les parecía inutil ver las obras mientras se solicitaban opiniones. Ese no era mi objetivo y, repito, la limpieza, reparacion y conservacion de ese edificio ya estaban en marcha. No esta relacionado con el estudio de viabilidad, salvo de manera tangencial, en el sentido de que ahora contamos con un lienzo en blanco con el que trabajar para ese edificio y cualquier diseno futuro del salón parroquial. Es precisamente en los disenos y planes futuros para el salon parroquial donde se estan tomando en cuenta sus comentarios y se están explorando nuestras opciones.

Con ese fin, quiero agradecer a todos los que participaron en el estudio de viabilidad; los resultados fueron positivos y alentadores para mí, mientras sigo trabajando para ampliar las instalaciones de nuestra parroquia con el fin de satisfacer las necesidades actuales y futuras de St. Mary's. Con base en los resultados del estudio, estoy explorando los próximos pasos en consulta con la diócesis para asegurar que lo que hagamos sea rentable, satisfaga las necesidades de nuestra comunidad y cumpla con los controles de calidad. No tengo nada definitivo que compartir con ustedes en este momento, pero también he recibido muchas preguntas adicionales sobre lo que esperamos hacer.
